The Blackwater River is an excellent place to go canoeing. It is close to Pensacola. It has a light colored sand bottom, nice slow flow rate, and a nice sandy beach on nearly every turn of the river. The average depth is probably about 4-5 feet. It is surrounded by many miles of deep forest but it does have some easy access points.
